He started Pediatric Infectious Disease (PID) fellowship at the Hacettepe University Medical Faculty. He became subspecialist in 2004 under the supervision of Prof Dr Guler Kanra who is the founder of PID in the country.
He became consultant of both MoH and the NGO “The Society for Nature” for Avian Influenza Pandemic & Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever. He was awarded by Prof Dr Recep Akdag, Minister of Health, for his dedicated efforts. Then worked for 5 years each at Inonu University and Suleyman Demirel University. Now, he has been working in Acıbadem University School of Medicine in Istanbul since 2015.
He participated various environmental projects and published many articles on nature conservation and bird-watching. He is the co-author of “Birds of Turkey: Status, Taxonomy and Distribution” published in 2010. He is also co-author and the consultant of the 2-volume encyclopedia “The Important Nature Areas of Turkey” which received many international awards for its comprehensive and innovative approach.
He concentrated on microbiota studies for the last 10 years as he wants to draw attention to the importance of microbiome for human health. He was the editor of the first Turkish book “Probiotics and Prebiotics for Health: Untold Story” and the editor of the journal (quarterly) “Probiotic-Prebiotic Chronicles” for 4 years. He co-organized the first pediatric meeting of “International Symposium of Probiotics Prebiotics in Pediatrics (IS3P-2012)” in Istanbul and was the President of the second IS3P-2014.
He published more than 50 international and 100 national articles. He performed more than 550 presentations on pediatrics, vaccines, probiotics, infectious diseases and ornithology in various meetings. He is still on Advisory/Editorial Board of some pediatric and infectious disease journals. He is also currently the Vice-President of Turkish Pediatric Probiotic Prebiotic and Microbiota Studies Society. He has 1900 citations and h-index is 23.
